Unique in the world: Bay Area hotel on a mountain

About Us
Like an eagle's nest, our inn sits atop a Mt. Tamalpais ridge with a view as far as you can see. Facing the sunrise, you look down over quaint woodsy villages, San Francisco Bay and distant mountain peaks. Turn the other way and you're facing primeval forests and the ocean.

Marin is know for its parks and hiking opportunities and no one is better situated than us for taking advantage of these. Whether you like to get up at the crack of dawn and hike down into Muir Woods or end the evening on our deck toasting the moonrise with one of our small select regional wines, you can do it here.

History
At the turn of the last century, a trip to Tamalpais was the No. 1 getaway for San Franciscans.

The mountain visitors made their way to Marin by way of ferries. These boats ran day and night, 60 times a day. Read More

Reading Surprise
While enjoying Laura Fraser's An Italian Affair—the book Condé Nast Traveller calls "both a grand travelogue and a thoughtful look at reclaiming independence" and the London Times said was "A deliciously romantic story, made even more captivating by the idea that someone actually experienced it"—we discovered the narrator took her lover on a magically romantic escape to...our inn.

Sustainability
We pride ourselves in providing a healthy environment to our guests.
Our cleaning supplies and toiletries are eco-friendly.

We try and make as little impact on the environment as possible; our landscape and gardens are pesticide-free.

We recycle our bedding, sheets, blankets and towels to the homeless and others in need.

The inn was the first Marin hotel to been designated a Bay Area Green Business.

Architect
The architect, John Deamer, was a conceptual planner for Sea Ranch, one of the most advanced environmentally-sensitive architectural designs of its time. John studied under Paolo Solveri, a proponent of human-being-influenced architecture. Paolo was an early student of Frank Lloyd Wright.
