Best
Night for a Moonlit Hike
Thurs. Sept. 23 (5:30-7:30 pm)
Friday, Oct. 22 (5-7pm)
Explore the magic of Mt. Tam under a full moon. On these
nights you can get also a rare opportunity to visit Muir Woods after
nightfall. We'll listen for owls, look for bats, and use our senses to guide us through the trails of an old-growth redwood forest.
The ranger-led 1.5 mile moonlit walk lasts two hours and begins at
the Muir Woods entrance. Children under 8 years not advised. Dress appropriately and bring a flashlight. Limited to 15 people. Reservations required: 388-2596.

Coyote
Brush
Take a hike on Mt. Tam this fall and notice the bushes laden with white flowers;
it's pollinating season for Coyote Brush.
The Coastal Miwok tribes heated the
leaves and applied them to swellings. Some tribes used the coyote brush wood for
building houses and for making arrow foreshafts.

Listening to Muir Woods After Dark
Sunday, Nov. 21 (3:30-5:30pm)
After sun sets below Dispea Ridge and Muir Woods transitions from day to night, come see and hear the subtle changes of an ancient redwood forest. Travel slowly through the Woods with Ranger Lou Sian on this easy walk in search of the rich sounds of nature that are fast becoming endangered in this busy metropolitan region.
Children under 8 years not advised. Dress in layers and bring a flashlight. Limited to 15 people. Reservations required: 388-2596.

Aerial
Displays
Did you notice our logo features a red hawk? We are partial to
them; they nest in our trees and can be spotted soaring above our decks.
Quote
"We
believe our national parks are at the heart of what makes the Bay
Area a wonderful place to live and visit. The enrich our lives, restore
our spirits, and connect us to the natural world. They are both grand
and fragile, diverse and unique, expansive but not limitless."
Brian O'Neill (1942-2009), Park Superintendent, Golden
Gate National Recreation Area.
