Night for a Moonlit Hike
Tues. Jan. 24, 2012
Explore the magic of our mountain under a full moon.
On these
nights you can get also a rare opportunity to visit Muir Woods after
nightfall and learn about the secret nightlife of an old growth redwood
forest. The guided 1.5 mile moonlit walk last two hours and begins at
the Muir Woods entrance at 4:3opm in January. Dress appropriately and bring a flashlight.

California Holly
Take
a hike on Mt. Tam this season and notice a mild hawthorne-scented evergreen tree/bush
with brilliant red berries. The Toyon, also know as the Christmas Berry or California
Holly, is native to our serpentine rocked mountain. The berries are a favorite
with butterflies, mockingbirds, cedar waxwings, robins and mammals. Mt. Tam's
Miwok Indian people crushed the berries into cider.

Winter Wonderland
This is the time to enjoy winter's natural wonders on Mt. Tam and in Muir Woods. Look for spawning salmon - ask a Muir Woods ranger where to look - mushroom displays, and more.

Aerial
Displays
Did you notice our logo features a red hawk? We are partial to
them; they nest in our trees and can be spotted soaring above our decks.

"We
believe our national parks are at the heart of what makes the Bay
Area a wonderful place to live and visit. The enrich our lives, restore
our spirits, and connect us to the natural world. They are both grand
and fragile, diverse and unique, expansive but not limitless."
Brian O'Neill (1942-2009), Park Superintendent, Golden
Gate National Recreation Area.
